Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer
At the Australian Trade Academy (ATA), we value your existing skills and qualifications. We offer both Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to help you fast-track your journey to an Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Level 3.
Credit Transfer
Credit transfer is a formal recognition of previous studies you've completed, which can significantly reduce the duration and fees of your chosen ATA course. You may apply for credit for complete units or specific modules within a unit. There is no charge to apply for a credit transfer; simply indicate your intention on your application for enrolment form. You will need to provide a certified copy of your certificate from another education provider or an authenticated VET transcript.
Special Note for NVQ Holders
If you hold an NVQ Level 3 or 4 qualification in a particular trade, the ATA is uniquely positioned to help you. We will assist you in mapping your current NVQ qualification against the Australian or New Zealand competency standards. This process identifies the specific 'gaps' in your learning, meaning you only need to complete the remaining units to achieve your AQF Level 3 qualification. This is your direct pathway to being fast-tracked to your Australian (AQF Level 3) qualification!
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL is a process that formally recognizes the skills and knowledge you've gained through extensive work experience, life experience, and other unrecognised training. This can significantly reduce your course duration and fees. To apply for RPL, please indicate this on your application for enrolment form at the time of application. A charge applies for RPL assessment, details of which can be found in our 'Fees and Refunds' section.
Upon successful assessment of your Credit Transfer or RPL application, we will inform you in writing of any reduced course duration and associated fees. For international students, your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) will then be issued for the reduced duration of the course.
