Certificate III in Wall and Commercial Wall Painting provides the skills and knowledge required to prepare, paint, and finish interior and exterior walls and surfaces in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. This nationally accredited qualification is typically completed via apprenticeship, requiring the successful completion of 30 units: 18 core and 12 elective units.

    • Follow environmental and sustainability best practices in a painting workplace
    • Interpret and apply painting and surface preparation instructions
    • Follow safe working practices in a painting workplace
    • Prepare and mask surfaces and components
    • Apply primers and undercoats to wall surfaces
    • Prepare and paint interior and exterior wall surfaces
    • Prepare and paint textured and specialty wall finishes
    • Remove paint and coatings from surfaces
    • Prepare and maintain painting equipment for use
    • Apply basic colour matching techniques using paint codes
    • Prepare and operate paint drying and curing equipment
    • Prepare substrates for painting and refinishing
    • Match paint colours for multi-layer and specialty coatings
    • Rectify and touch up paint faults on walls and surfaces
    • Apply clear coats and sealers to wall surfaces
    • Apply water-based and solvent-based painting materials
    • De-nib, buff, and polish painted surfaces where required
    • Use spray painting techniques on commercial and industrial surfaces
